The Ethical Finance Research Series provides a forum for fostering intellectual exchange among academics and practitioners on issues affecting today's financial industry with a focus on ethical concerns. The general purpose of the Series is to provide professionals with comprehensive knowledge on current academic research and confront academics with insight from the private sector.

The Series is jointly organized by the Center for Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability (CCRS) and NCCR FINRISK. It is supported by the Swiss Banking Institute (SBI), the Center of Competence Finance in Zurich (CCFZ), and the Schwerpunkt Finance at the University of Zurich.

2006 Conference on Corporate Governance

Conference "Challenges to Effective Corporate Governance" explored current challenges and limits to effective corporate governance. One session addressed "Determinants of Effective Corporate Governance" and analyzed causes, implications and possible remedies for corporate governance failures. Another session on "Managing Conflicts of Interest" shed light on a number of conflicts of interest in financial services firms and suggest sound policies to deal with these conflicts.

Keynote addresses are delivered by Michael Jensen (Harvard University) and Ingo Walter (Stern School of Business, New York University). Additional talks by a distinguished group of experts including Hans J. Bär (Julius Bär Holding), Peter Forstmoser (SwissRe), Rüdiger von Rosen (Deutsches Aktieninstitut), Peter Weibel (Credit Suisse), and Jean-Baptiste Zufferey (Swiss Federal Banking Commission) provided practitioners' and regulators' insights into these issues.

The conference took place on November 15, 2006 from 13:30 to 18:30 at SWX Swiss Exchange ConventionPoint in Zurich.
